Bring it Home Orange County

If you want to participate in one of the biggest multicultural events in Orange County, then the Irvine Global Village Festival is for you. The Irvine Global Village Festival was founded in 1998 by a close group of Irvine residents in order to help promote understanding while building harmony within Irvine’s several diverse cultures. It is worth noting that over the years, the Irvine Global Village Festival has considerably expanded from 1 day to 2 days. It has also moved from Col. Bill Barber Park located across from the famous Irvine City Hall to the more spacious Orange County Great Park.

Did you know that this event represents over 50 unique cultures every year? You can spend the two days and join the vibrant community as it celebrates cultural diversity through a great combination of musical performances, food and dance.

The festival was originally called the Multicultural Festival. It was hosted twice between 1988 and 2000. However, in 2002, the festival was officially renamed the Irvine Global Village Festival, and the massive event had about 4,000 visitors in attendance.

The event is recognized as one of the best and most significant cultural festivals in Orange County and features over 100 musical, demonstration performances and dances. It also features international cuisine and a Kids Village with activities and crafts that your children will love. So, bring your family with you and enjoy either your picnic favorites or buy dinner from a local food truck.

It is worth noting that the celebration includes several drive-in concerts at the OC Great Park. And that is not all; the festival celebration also highlights Irvine’s diverse and fabulous restaurants. This encourages the community to fully experience the international fare available in Irvine’s many restaurants while celebrating at their home, which is excellent.

Things to Do

Did you know that there are more than thirty participating restaurants, where you will find both international and regional food? The best thing is that you can expect almost anything from Taiwanese snacks and Bolivian meat pies to roasted corn and tasty hamburgers.

Your kids should visit the fantastic Kids Village. It is full of interactive activities, like a henna tattoo station, a puppet show and a karate demonstration. Some other kids’ attractions are a bubble zone, face painting, and a petting zoo.

You can also shop for international goods from artisans and vendors offering gifts, textiles, crafts, and art, which is excellent. Note that the Kid’s Village includes kid-inspired music, sports, crafts, and games, as well as several kid-friendly food options. Demonstrations usually take place throughout the day and include martial arts, crafting, tennis, music, and dancing. Also, it is worth noting that interactive and educational exhibits will also be available for guests.

COVID-19 Measures

Due to COVID-19, this year’s festival will be a little different. Although you can’t gather in person, you can celebrate Orange County’s leading multicultural event in new and innovative ways.

You can also volunteer at the festival. When you volunteer, you will do so with more than 300 other people. Note that the only requirements are that you have to be at least fourteen years old and also sign up for a shift from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Keep in mind that some of the areas that could use help include zero waste support, admissions, exhibits, survey roamers and environmental programs booth support.

Drive-In Concerts

The best thing about the Irvine Global Village Festival is that it includes drive-in concerts. These are held at the Orange County Great Park. You can park your cars and fully enjoy a picnic while paying tribute to the rich and vibrant musical history of the Irvine Global Village Festival while safely and effectively practicing social distancing.

So, whether you would like to taste different cuisines or watch traditional musical performances, there is something at this festival that everyone can enjoy.
